Healthy Relationship Building

language_of_love

Our silent cry has always been “I want to love, to be loved, and I just want to be me”. Our heart desires a vibrant, alive, full partnership and yet it seems that so few can create or maintain that connection in an intimate relationship.  When those needs are met we are at a banquet, everyone is happy, However when those needs are not met, a host of negative feelings, emotions, and behavior set in leaving us feeling controlled and suffocated.  We find ourselves in a hostage taking rather than a healthy, vibrant relationship.

When relationships start to go south, each person becomes like an actor who wants to run the whole show; is forever trying to arrange the lights, the ballet, the scenery, and the rest of the players in their own way. The show does not go off, they even try harder. Sometimes with kindness, consideration, patience and generosity, but more often with anger, self pity, selfishness, dishonesty and aggressive force.

Trying to change someone takes tremendous amount of energy and is completely futile. We can only change ourselves. When we begin to explore OUR personal role in the relationship we can begin to uncover the unconscious influences that might be blindsiding us. These influences can be connected to our ancestors, trauma in our childhood, disconnection from our own life and spiritual path, unconscious behaviors and conditioning or sometimes simply BAD HABITS.

If we wish to have a healthy relationship with another, we first must have a healthy relationship with ourselves.  When we speak of relationship, what is it that we speak of?  Relationship to self, to others, to that which surrounds us, what are we in relationship to?  Who is it that we wish to relate to? Our primary focus must be the type of relationship we have with ourselves.
